Taking the high road with Nu-Rock

Nu-Rock technology has important application in the road building process as a long overdue replacement to concrete road base, sub-base and aggregates. Nu-Rock pavements are stronger, lighter, have a higher flexible ratio As well as being more durable than traditional concrete-based pavements. Nu-Rock pavement contains up to 95% byproduct materials and is 100% recyclable, providing road builders with a superior performing, more affordable and greener alternative to traditional concrete equivalents. Nu-Rock pavement can also contain waste plastics, glass and tyre rubber without impacting performance.

Due to it’s inherent versatility Nu-Rock Formulated rock can also be applied to the manufacture of green road surface materials that do not involve the use of potentially harmful bitumen. Nu-Rock ‘Formulated Rock’ locks up all the heavy metals and even radio-active elements found in some waste streams. Producing greener and more durable roads by using Nu-Rock technology to recycle large volumes of industrial byproducts and domestic waste materials is an important part of Nu-Rock’s global vision.

Emissions free manufacturing

Nu-Rock’s “Formulated Rock” technology uses an emissions-free manufacturing process. It represents a significant improvement on centuries-old, energy-intensive methods that require the quarrying, transport, and kiln firing of limestone at temperatures of up to 1500°C. These traditional processes also rely on the extraction and movement of finite natural resources such as sand and aggregates.

In contrast to Nu-Rock, clay-based product manufacturing is also highly energy-intensive, typically involving a seven-day warming and drying cycle at 500°C, followed by a three-day firing process at 1050°C.
